Rhythms of the Cells, Earth and Universe

Every single cell (hair cells and skin to our muscles and even kidneys) in our body is having its own rhythm. It keeps time by its own means. There are trillions of such cellular clocks in our body. The master control is in the brain in the hypothalamus right above the crossing of our two optical nerves. There is a tiny patch of about 20,000 neurons of Suprachiasmatic Nucleus. However each cell in our body has its own clock making sure the timely production of enzymes, keeping blood pressure under control, ensure proper division of cells, figure out when to use energy, when to rest, when to repair DNA, or to replicate DNA. etc.

Scientists have discovered that mouse hair grows fast in the morning and slows down at night when it repairs cell damage. Two of the essential processes of cell death and proliferation are regulated by this rhythm. In cancer tissue these are absent resulting in uncontrolled growth of the cells. Hormonal balance in the body is also controlled by the cell rhythms. When the central clock gets out of sync with the rest of the body of the old people, it may affect their sleep patterns.

The rhythm in the biological cells is part of the rhythm of the Universe. Our whole Universe is intrinsically exhibiting a Rhythm. There is harmony and order in the operation of this Universe. Everything in the universe is in a regular motion in a periodical pattern showing the existence of a rhythm.

Our planet Earth is having her own unique natural rhythm. In a way, it is her signature in the cosmos, it is her pulse. When life first emerged on Earth, it naturally tuned into this rhythm. Earth’s electromagnetic field surrounds and protects all living beings with a natural frequency pulsation of 7.83 hertz. It is popularly called “Schumann resonance”. It was named after physicist Dr Winfried Otto Schumann. He mathematically predicted its existence in the year 1952. What particularly interests us in the practice of Sri Anand Yoga (SAY) is that 7.83 hertz is also the human brain’s average alpha frequency in electroencephalography. At this frequency a state is induced where we begin to tap into the wealth of creativity that lies just below our conscious awareness. Our relationship with our planet Earth is like the relationship of Mother with her Child.

It is to be noted here that while the Earth’s vibration could be clearly measured in nature and in the ocean, it was almost impossible to measure in the city. This was because of the manmade artificial signals such as radios, TVs, cars, buildings, phones, and the like overriding natural signals. This has very serious implications on our overall well being. Dr. Wolfgang Ludwig has done a considerable amount of research on this subject. His research has led him to develop the first magnetic field therapy devices. It was discovered by Dr Luc Antoine Montagnier that the bridge that connects resonances and brain frequencies resides in our DNA helix, which has developed for millions of years in the Earth’s environment. (Dr. Luc Antoine Montagnier was awarded the Nobel Prize in physiology. He is known for his discovery of the human immunodeficiency virus),

In Indian Classical Music, rhythm (taal) has an immense importance. In fact the whole edifice of music is built around this rhythm.

In Sri Anand Yoga (SAY), we use the rhythm to sync with the rhythm in the Universe. This is explained separately.
